The Agriculture Department's Food Safety and Inspection Service withdrew a public health alert for certain chicken nuggets sold at Walmart after determining that an earlier test finding of trace lead levels was a false positive.
FSIS said it had confirmed that a specific lot of Great Value Fully Cooked Dino Shaped Chicken Breast Nuggets, produced by Dorada Foods, "does not pose a public health concern."
It said follow-up testing by both Dorada Foods and the New York State Department of Public Health found no elevated lead levels in both the lot in question and other lots of the product.
The initial finding of lead was a false positive based on sporadic lead contamination at the laboratory where the lot was tested, FSIS said.
FSIS had issued a public health alert around the lot last week.
