St. Petersburg, Fla. (January 25, 2018) - About 65 gallons of sludge (a treatment by-product) leaked during a line repair at the Northwest Water Reclamation Facility (NWWRF) at 3800 7500 26th Avenue North.

The unauthorized discharge - which began (and was immediately stopped) around 8:45 am Thursday - was completely contained in a tarp around the pipe, and onto a containment area.

This followed another small discharge of fully-treated reclaimed water at the Southwest Water Reclamation Facility (SWWRF) at 3800 54th Avenue South. At approximately 7:30 am, an un-connected feed line was discovered while the new digester tank was being filled during a leak check. The 600 gallon spill was stopped within ten minutes and soaked into the ground.
