Albert Heijn
Albert Heijn has been voted the most sustainable supermarket chain in the Netherlands for the sixth year in a row. That is the outcome of the Sustainable Brand Index™ 2022, the largest and leading research in Europe in the field of consumer brands and sustainability. An important motive behind this appreciation is the range of organic, fair trade, vegetarian and vegan products on offer.
Marit van Egmond, CEO Albert Heijn says: "This title is an important recognition from consumers for our efforts to make better food - healthier and more sustainable - available to everyone. Sustainability is a journey in which you gradually make the world a better place. All steps together make a big leap. For example, we have recently launched great initiatives to combat food waste and we have made some of our packaging circular."
Annemarije Tillema, Country Director Sustainable Brand Index Netherlands: "Albert Heijn has again succeeded in gaining more appreciation from Dutch consumers for their sustainability work this year, compared to previous years. An important motive behind this appreciation is the range of organic, fair trade, vegetarian and vegan products on offer. Consumers also see that Albert Heijn is taking responsibility for themes such as food waste and chain transparency. Plastic reduction, animal welfare and sustainable packaging are topics for the increasingly aware Dutch person where Albert Heijn can show even more efforts and impact. Continuous improvement is expected."
