Apple seems to want to get back to work on its next revolutionary product. The tech giant is reportedly currently working on personal robotics. Its developments would still be at a very early stage, though.

In related news, Apple has a team working on developing fully autonomous home devices. Currently, for example, it is said to be working on a personal robot that follows users around the house. Reports Bloomberg.

  • The development of these personal autonomous home robots seem to be becoming the new focus after ditching plans around a self-driving electric car. Indeed, after ten years of research and billions of dollars of investment, Apple recently decided to abandon that project. For a long time, Apple assumed that its future lay in "automotive, home and mixed reality." The former is now no longer its focus. For the latter, it recently released the Apple Vision Pro. As a result, the focus is now on "home."
  • So at its headquarters in Cupertino, California, Apple has a secret facility resembling the inside of a house where it can test all kinds of devices.
  • "Next big thing"The plans around a personal autonomous home robot fit within Apple's obsession with the search for "the next big thing." Such a new hardware product should reinvigorate them following the Mac in 1984, the iPhone in 2007, the iPad in 2010, the Apple Watch in 2015 and the AirPods in 2016.The recently launched Apple Vision Pro also fits within that quest. However, it would be years before those mixed reality glasses become a major source of revenue.RoboticsWith the development of personal robotics, Apple hopes to gain a foothold in consumers' homes. It would also immediately be a place to monetize its large investments in artificial intelligence. The employees who spent years working on the self-driving car within Apple have all but moved on to the AI department within the company, led by John Giannandrea. Matt Costello and Brian Lynch, in turn, oversee the department with a focus on home products. The first robotics-like product currently said to be in development is a home hub device with an iPad-like screen.
