Bega Group announced that the following a careful review of its fresh milk manufacturing operations across the ACT and NSW, it is ceasing the manufacture of its fresh dairy products at its Canberra facility in Griffith (previously known as Capitol Chilled Foods) and relocating manufacture to the group's Penrith site. Given there are no dairy farms in Canberra, milk was traditionally sourced from outside the ACT and transported to Griffith for production, often bypassing more efficient and sustainable production sites like Bega's Penrith facility. There will be no change to the brand or the milk inside the bottles across Canberra Milk or Dairy Farmers brands because of this announcement - it will be the same high quality Australian milk that has been sourced for decades.

The changing nature of the dairy market within the ACT has meant that Bega's Griffith facility has not been operating at its full capacity for some time. This combined the fact that there have not been dairy farms within the ACT for many years has created challenges for the Canberra site. Bega Group is working closely with the 19 employees who have been affected by this announcement and will provide redundancy packages or redeployment where possible.

An outplacement program, as well as an employee assistance program is available to support team members with their job transition.
