BONESUPPORT Holding AB announced the recent publication of long-term follow-up data demonstrating sustained high limb salvage rates and low deep infection rates with the company's antibiotic-eluting bone graft CERAMENT G. The study of 81 patients were managed with a single-stage procedure with CERAMENT G. Patients arrived at hospital with significant tissue loss and exposed bone tissue. With a mean follow-up of 55.8 months after surgery, it was found that 96.3% of patients had avoided an amputation, 96% had achieved bony union within 12 months, and 96.3% had avoided deep infection. The patients from the study were classified as having one of the most severe categories of open fractures (Gustilo-Anderson class IIIB), usually caused by traffic accidents.

For this patient population, earlier publications have shown up to 16% amputation rates, non-unions up to 29%, and deep infection rates as high as 52%.
