Three New Combined Product Offerings Designed to Support the Entire
Treatment Spectrum

JENA - September 11, 2009. Carl Zeiss Meditec will showcase three
new ophthalmic treatment solutions at the European Society of
Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ESCRS) meeting in Barcelona, Spain.
These new diagnostic and surgical offerings are designed to work
together to improve productivity, workflow and clinical outcomes that
are critical in today's healthcare environment.

Carl Zeiss Solutions include:

ZEISS Toric Solution - a combination of tools that allow physicians
to implant and align toric lenses faster and easier

ZEISS Ophthalmic Data Management Solutions - a completely integrated
platform that stores all diagnostic patient data, thus providing a
paperless diagnostic and surgical workflow

ZEISS Refractive Laser Solution - the most comprehensive range of
applications as well as fully integrated flow of data and patient
handling.

"In the face of growing patient demands and practice management
challenges, the need for the eyecare industry to provide dedicated
solutions that improve efficiency processes while supporting clinical
outcomes is more critical than ever before," said Dr. Michael
Kaschke, President and CEO of Carl Zeiss Meditec. "In addition to
our long tradition of spearheading technological developments in
ophthalmology, we are working to provide answers to the new
challenges that our customers face. Our 'Solutions' offering at
ESCRS utilizes trusted tools and applications to deliver proven
results."

ZEISS Toric Solution
This combined solution is designed to provide a fast and reliable
toric lens surgery to astigmatic patients with increased safety
through an integrated workflow. Starting with the pre-operative
biometry, the gold-standard IOL Master ensures highly accurate,
precise outcomes through a totally non-contact measurement.
Following biometry measurements, the calculation of ZEISS toric IOLs
can be easily done with the new Z CALC: an online calculator
providing customized results with modifiable sphere and cylinder
powers, for excellent refractive outcomes. In the OR, surgical
microscopes (like the OPMI Lumera family) ensure excellent clarity
and an outstanding red reflex to support the implementation of toric
IOLs like the AT LISA toric, the one and only MICS IOL that can
simultaneously correct sphere, cylinder and associated presbyopia.
Finally, the innovative new video supported tool Z ALIGN, a function
of CALLISTO eye, enables surgeons to accurately position the toric
IOL using an integrated eye tracking system.

ZEISS Ophthalmic Data Management Solution
Carl Zeiss presents the first fully integrated platform which
connects all ophthalmic systems and links the diagnostic and surgery
procedures: Diagnostic reports and images are stored centrally and
can be viewed from any location in or outside the ophthalmic practice
- even in the operating room. The modular architecture of this
scalable solution guarantees maximum flexibility and meets the
different needs of ophthalmic practices and surgery centers of any
size. The immediate benefit of an integrated workflow even on a very
small scale can be experienced e.g. at the new Retina workstation,
which allows a complete retinal exam at once. The integrating
components of the ZEISS Ophthalmic Data Management Solution are the
FORUM image and report management system and the CALLISTO eye OR
management system.

ZEISS Refractive Laser Solution
The combination of MEL 80 excimer laser, CRS-Master custom treatment
platform and VisuMax femtosecond laser offers the most extensive
range of applications for today and tomorrow. Carl Zeiss Meditec is
on track to commercializing the FLEx all-in-one procedure as of ASCRS
2010. Recent clinical outcomes are very positive - FLEx has reached
and partially exceeds LASIK clinical outcomes and represents the
first step towards minimally invasive laser vision correction. The
scope of therapy offered by the MEL 80 excimer platform will be
significantly expanded by the newly introduced, retrofittable Laser
Blended Vision module that alleviates presbyopia. Due the design
philosophy of the Carl Zeiss Meditec technology platform, all systems
in the field are upgradeable to the most recent applications.

Complementing the wide ophthalmic portfolio, the company is
showcasing additional products, including:

Visante omni - shown for the first time at a European congress as a
complete system - is the first system to combine OCT and Placido disk
technologies, providing comprehensive anterior and posterior
topography for improved patient selection and care. It allows the
refractive surgeon to identify pre-existing corneal abnormalities,
such as keratoconus, in their earliest stages.

Visalis 100 - Launched in February 2009, Visalis 100 is a reliable,
safe phaco machine with affordable accessories costs per surgery.

Cirrus HD-OCT, the modern OCT standard, is now available in two
models: Cirrus HD-OCT 400 and Cirrus HD-OCT 4000. The new model
400's Live OCT Fundus(TM) technology streamlines the instrument's
scan targeting optics to deliver proven Cirrus performance and core
diagnostic applications at an affordable price. The new model will
join the current Cirrus HD-OCT 4000, today's first choice OCT for the
full spectrum of patient care. Both systems are quick and easy to
operate, providing unique views of the retina due to precision
segmentation algorithms and superb quality images, and provide the
best possible basis for reliable diagnosis and treatment decisions
for pre and post cataract surgical assessment, management of retinal
disorders and glaucoma progression analysis.

ESCRS visitors will have the opportunity to attend Carl Zeiss
lectures and symposia, as well as live presentations and
demonstrations at booth G1. In addition, physicians can gain
hands-on experience with many of the company's future surgical and
diagnostic technologies.
