CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) _ City Holding Co. (CHCO) on Thursday reported first-quarter earnings of $21.3 million.

The Charleston, West Virginia-based bank said it had earnings of $1.41 per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.23 per share.

The bank holding company for City National Bank of West Virginia posted revenue of $57 million in the period. Its revenue net of interest expense was $55.7 million, also exceeding Street forecasts.

City Holding shares have decreased 3% since the beginning of the year. The stock has risen slightly more than 2% in the last 12 months.
