Crown Castle International REIT : City Announces Agreement with Crown Castle for Unified Fiber Connectivity Network for City Facilities

Pittsburgh mayor William Peduto has announced an agreement with communications infrastructure provider Crown Castle for a comprehensive unified fibre internet connectivity network for city facilities under the NetPGH initiative.

It will connect all 131 City facilities on a single network, including emergency medical services stations, fire stations, recreation and healthy active living centres, and critical public safety infrastructure.

The partnership will allow for the future deployment of public wifi in city neighbourhoods.

Currently, more than half of city facilities operate on disparate institutional networks and the move to a unified high-speed network is designed to improve the delivery of core services to residents.

The plan will enable expansion of the Rec2Tech initiative, which transforms the City's recreation centres into learning labs where children can learn 21st century skills like coding and video game design.

The agreement will also advance the Smart Corridors initiative to improve traffic efficiency and prioritise mobility of transit vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians.
