Geely Automobile Holdings Ltd., one of China's largest car makers, has agreed to partner with technology giant Tencent Holdings Ltd. to develop smart-vehicle technologies, including autonomous driving and intelligent car cockpits.

The two companies will also work together to digitize all aspects of an automotive product's lifecycle from manufacturing to after-sales services, they said in a joint statement Tuesday.

The deal is the latest move by Geely seeking cooperation with China's major tech companies. Earlier this month, Geely's parent, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., a multinational firm that also owns Volvo Cars, partnered with Chinese search-engine leader Baidu Inc. to produce electric cars.

"The global automotive industry is facing profound changes...we must be open to cooperation, joint development, and new innovations," said Geely Chief Executive An Conghui.
