- Hyundai Elevator-led consortium selected as national project implementing agency... H-PORT development to speed up

- Existing vertiport operation limited in urban environments… Incorporated 'vertical and horizontal movement' technology for differentiation

Hyundai Elevator will begin full-scale development of 'Vertiport,' one of the core projects for commercializing urban air transportation (UAM).

Hyundai Elevator Consortium became the implementing agency for the 'Mobile Modular Vertiport Design/Construction Technology and Monitoring System Development Project.'

The project is a task of Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport(MOLIT)'s 'Development of Core Technology for Korean Urban Air Traffic (K-UAM) Safety Operation System,' recently selected as one of the government's top 10 national strategic technology projects. Vertiport is a compound word of 'Vertical' and 'Airport.' It is a takeoff and landing area that will become the hub of UAM.

The Hyundai Elevator Consortium will carry out the Vertiport development project from April 2024 to December 2026 with government funding of 10.517 billion won. The two major research tasks of the project include building a mobile modular vertiport infrastructure and developing a takeoff and landing surveillance system.

Vertiport, currently under development by domestic and foreign companies, requires the same large land and space as existing airports, limiting its application in urban environments with dense high-rise buildings. Hyundai Elevator plans to resolve this issue at a stroke by proposing the 'Vertical sky garage-type vertiport' that combines vertical and horizontal movement, the company's core technology and strength.

Hyundai Elevator has already unveiled H-PORT in July 2023 at the 'Neom Roadshow,' a new city development project between MOLIT and Saudi Arabia held at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), drawing domestic and global attention.

H-Port is a building for comprehensively controlling the sky garage, automatic parking and charging of drones, and passenger boarding and alighting using Hyundai Elevator's unique automatic parking system technology. It will serve as the hub of UAM, the main means of transportation in smart cities.

H-PORT is expected to be a solution for addressing space constraints in urban areas for commercializing UAM. Hyundai Elevator is proceeding with H-Port as its next-generation flagship business. Implementing the national project is likely to give the green light to Hyundai Elevator's entry into mega-scale future city projects.

Hyundai Elevator said it will, "cooperate closely with the consortium to successfully implement the national project and achieve high-level technological development by leveraging the strengths of industry, academia, and research institutions," and "play a leading role in securing the technological capabilities of the national industry and commercializing K-UAM."

Hyundai Elevator formed a consortium with Lotte Engineering & Construction, Korea Testing Certification Institute, Korea National University of Transportation, Cheongju University, and Ninano Company to carry out the project.
