Sports Desk, May 26 (EFE).- Ferrari's Charles Leclerc won the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday.

Having started on pole, the Monegasque delivered an impeccable drive to finally register his first win on home soil.

His Ferrari teammate, Spain's Carlos Sainz, was third, behind McLaren's Oscar Piastri of Australia.

Piastri's British teammate Lando Norris came in fourth, one position ahead of his compatriot George Russell for Mercedes.

Dutch reigning world champion Max Verstappen's Red Bull came in sixth, while his erstwhile rival Lewis Hamilton came in seventh in the other Mercedes.

Japan's Yuki Tsunoda came in eighth for RB, ahead of Thai-British driver Alex Albon for Williams, scoring the team's first points of the season.

France's Pierre Gasly rounded out the top 10 for Alpine.

The final top 10 saw no changes to the starting positions, as is often the case at Monaco, a narrow street circuit where overtaking is notoriously difficult.

The race's most dramatic moments came during the opening lap, with Verstappen's Mexican teammate Sergio 'Checo' Perez's disastrous season continuing when he was involved in a heavy crash with the two Haas cars driven by Kevin Magnussen of Denmark and German veteran Nico Huelkenberg.

Verstappen, who has won five races this season, leads the drivers' standings with 169 points, while Leclerc is second with 138 points. EFE
