Solidarity Saudi Takaful Co. reported earnings results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2018. For the quarter, the company reported net profit before Zakat of SAR 1,337,000 against SAR 10,643,000 a year ago. Gross written premiums were SAR 71,777,000 against SAR 35,952,000 a year ago. Net written premiums were SAR 65,495 against SAR 31,144,000 a year ago. Net loss of shareholders capital investment was SAR 200,000 against net profit of shareholders capital investment SAR 1,782,000 a year ago. Earnings per share was SAR 0.05 per share as compared to 0.43 per share a year ago. The reasons for the decrease in the net profit during the current quarter as compared to the same quarter of the previous year is due to the negative effect of unearned premium and realized loss in shareholders investment. The reason for the income during the current quarter as compared to the deficit for the previous quarter is due to increase in the gross written premium.
