15 Oct 2021 STV's Sean Batty to host new three-part series on how Scots can do their bit for the environment Tagged in: Press Releases
STV presenter Sean Batty is set to host a brand new primetime series exploring how people across Scotland are coming up with innovative ways of preserving the country they love - and showing viewers how they too can make changes to help battle the global climate crisis.

Don't Waste Scotland will see the TV favourite, who has fronted STV's weather coverage for over 15 years, travelling across the country to meet a range of inspiring people who have Scotland's environmental future at the forefront of their hearts and minds.

With more of us looking for greener lifestyle solutions, and the eyes of the world on Scotland as Glasgow prepares to welcome global leaders for the COP26 climate change conference, Don't Waste Scotland will give ordinary Scots some fresh ideas for how they can protect our natural environment in their own small way.

During the series, sponsored by smart meters, Sean meets Ayrshire paddle boarders Charlotte and Neil, who spend much of their time searching the hidden corners of Scotland's rivers to fish out rubbish before it reaches the sea, as well as Edinburgh up-cycler Mari who repairs and restores old teddy bears and dolls in her Leith "toy hospital".

Sean also travels to the Isle of Seil to catch up with Coinneach MacLeod, whose recipe videos posted under the alias of "The Hebridean Baker" have made him a somewhat unlikely TikTok sensation. Coinneach explains how using only locally-sourced ingredients in his unique culinary creations helps to reduce his carbon footprint.

Don't Waste Scotland will air as part of STV's sustainability strategy, STV Zero, which commits the broadcaster to becoming a net zero carbon business by 2030. Through this strategy, STV is committed to raising awareness of environmental issues and promoting sustainable lifestyles in response to the climate crisis.

Sean Batty said:"Scotland is renowned the world over for its natural beauty, but the sad reality is that we'll lose the country we know and love if we don't take urgent action now.

"I had such an incredible time travelling across Scotland and meeting some of the inspiring people who are working hard to preserve our country for generations to come. Tweaking our lifestyles can be daunting, but at a time when we're all looking for ways of making a difference, I hope viewers will learn as much from watching this series as I did making it."

Don't Waste Scotland begins on STV and STV Player at 8pm on Wednesday 20 October and continues weekly.
