(Alliance News) - STV Group PLC on Friday said that it has been commissioned for the first time by a global video streaming service to produce a new three-part drama series.

The Glasgow-based television broadcaster and content producer said it will collaborate with Netflix Inc to produce The Witness, a series about Rachel Nickell, who was murdered in London in 1992, with her nearly three-year old son at the time being the only witness. It will comprise three 60-minute episodes.

STV Managing Director David Mortimer said: "This is STV Studios first commission for Netflix, and we very much look forward to collaborating with them on this project, which our experienced and committed drama team will produce with the utmost sensitivity and care that it deserves."

STV shares were up 4.0% to 213.20 pence each on Friday morning in London.
