BERLIN (dpa-AFX) - The Minister President of Schleswig-Holstein, Daniel Günther, does not want to approve the planned partial legalization of cannabis in Germany. The law is questionable anyway and he considers it "nonsense to legalize cannabis", he said on Deutschlandfunk radio on Friday morning. However, he added that it had to be accepted that there was a majority in the Bundestag in favor. "The law is simply so poorly crafted that it cannot be implemented at all in the federal states when it comes into force on April 1," the CDU politician emphasized.

The controversial legalization of cannabis in Germany will be finally passed by the Bundesrat on Friday. The law passed by the Bundestag could be sent to the mediation committee by the chamber of the federal states and thus put on hold for the time being. According to the plans of the traffic light coalition, possession and cultivation of the drug will be permitted for personal use by adults with numerous requirements as of April 1. As of July 1, non-commercial associations for joint cultivation will also be able to start.

However, Günther could well imagine the law coming into force at a later date in October. To this end, he would call on a mediation committee to eliminate the current weaknesses in the law. "These are also issues that can be clarified really quickly," said the Minister President. "I would hope that the traffic lights would also have an interest in the serious implementation of laws."/scr/DP/mis
