Transurban announced that it expects to open the M4-M8 link tunnels (formerly known as the M4-M5 Link) on 20 January 2023, marking a major milestone in the city-shaping project. The approximately 7.5-kilometre twin tunnels will provide a critical connection between the M4 at Haberfield and the M8 at St Peters creating over 33 kilometres of traffic-light free motorway. These roads will provide motorists an option to save up to 40 minutes on a trip between Parramatta and Mascot.

This vital link represents the final element of the WestConnex Project to be delivered by the Sydney Transport Partners consortium, with the Rozelle Interchange currently under construction by Transport for NSW. WestConnex is one of the largest road infrastructure projects in the world and already plays a critical role in easing congestion, supporting over 200,000 trips a day and connecting communities across Sydney. The opening of this next stage will provide further travel time savings with connections for future projects linking the northern and southern areas of Sydney.
