A discussion paper has also been launched by Victoria's Minister for Roads, Luke Donnellan, that looks at what regulative changes are needed to allow for testing of highly-automated vehicles across the state's road network.

Transurban is excited to be partnering with the Victorian Government to better understand how automated vehicle technology works with roadside equipment like overhead lane signals, electronic speed signs and line marking.

The trial will lead to real-world testing of this technology along the Monash-CityLink-Tullamarine corridor and will help prepare for the future take up of more connected and driverless vehicles on our roads.

Transurban CEO Scott Charlton was on hand for the Minister's announcement, noting the huge potential automated vehicles could make to boosting road safety, relieving congestion and helping create more connected communities by improving social mobility.

Comments can be made on the Victorian Government's discussion paper through to 3 February 2017. You can find the discussion paper by clicking here.
