The Angolan company Fonecom said in a statement today that it intends to open, by next year, five electronic equipment stores and to install a mobile phone assembly line in the country.

In a clarification note, the company explains that the assembly line will not be made in partnership with the Chinese company Xiaomi, as reported on December 13 by the Angolan News Agency (ANGOP).

Fonecom informs that the factory will result from a partnership with a Chinese investor for the production of low, medium and upper middle class phones.

According to the company, the Xiaomi brand of products will only be sold in five Fonecom stores.

The statement said it was false that Xiaomi would produce low cost phones in Angola.

Fonecom, in partnership with a Chinese investor, opened its first store in Luanda on the 13th, selling exclusive Xiaomi brand products. It intends to open 5 stores, 2 in Luanda, Cabinda, Benguela, Lubango and thus creates 120 jobs.
