Adobe Inc.'s profit soared in the fiscal second quarter as coronavirus-led work-from-home trends drove sales higher.

"The tectonic shift towards 'all things digital' across all customer segments globally will serve as a tailwind to our growth initiatives as we emerge from this crisis," Adobe Chief Executive Shantanu Narayen said.

The San Jose, Calif., company said net income rose to $1.1 billion, or $2.27 a share, for the quarter ended May 29, from $633 million, or $1.29 a share, in the comparable quarter a year earlier. Adjusted earnings were $2.45 a share. Analysts polled by FactSet were expecting $2.32 a share on an adjusted basis.

Total revenue rose 14% from a year ago to $3.13 billion. Analysts were expecting $3.16 billion. Digital media segment revenue rose 18% to $2.23 billion from a year earlier while digital experience segment revenue increased 5% to $826 million.
