OTTAWA--Canadian manufacturing activity was up strongly for a second straight month in March, hitting its highest level since January 2025 with a jump in petroleum prices.
Factory shipments increased 3% from the month before to a seasonally adjusted 73.57 billion Canadian dollars, the equivalent of about US$53.67 billion, Statistics Canada said Friday.
The result was slightly softer than the data agency's advance estimate for monthly rise of 3.5%, and came on the heels of a downwardly revised 3.4% advance in February.
Compared with a year earlier, sales in March were up 3.5%.
Sales in volume terms were up 1% for the month to C$52.61 billion, and 1.4% below the same month last year.
