OTTAWA--Canada intends to present its annual spring economic update on April 28.

Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne said Tuesday the update would reinforce government efforts to rebuild an economy that became too reliant on trade with the U.S. to spark growth.

Canada presented its annual budget in November. The update is expected to provide guidance on the size of the budget deficit for the most recent fiscal year, ended March 31, and the current one.

The Bank of Canada, in its most recent economic outlook, anticipated 1.1% growth this year. As it happens, the central bank issues its next rate-policy decision the following day, on April 29.

The International Monetary Fund on Tuesday said it expects Canada to record 1.5% growth in 2026.
