The death of Revolutionary Guards naval head Alireza Tangsiri, an experienced commander in place since 2018, was a significant blow to the ruling authorities. Tangsiri had reportedly played a significant part in Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
Tangsiri was killed by Israel, following severe injuries, the government confirmed on Monday (March 30).
