FRANKFURT (dpa-AFX) - The first passengers on a scheduled flight have been processed at Frankfurt Airport's new Terminal 3. A China Southern Airlines jet from Shenyang was the first to land early this morning, as confirmed by airport operator Fraport.
The Chinese carrier is among 57 airlines scheduled to relocate to the new Terminal 3 at Germany's largest airport by this summer. They were previously based in Terminal 2, which is slated for closure and renovation.
The new facility was officially inaugurated on Wednesday with a formal ceremony following more than ten years of construction. In its initial phase, the 4 billion euro terminal offers a handling capacity of approximately 19 million passengers, which can be expanded to 25 million with the addition of a fourth pier. It represents the final stage of the approved expansion at Frankfurt Airport./wem/DP/stk
