:: U.S. President Donald Trump calls Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva 'a smart guy' after their meeting
"No, we had a great meeting with the president of Brazil. We're doing a lot of trading and we're going to do some increased trading. We talked about tariffs. We talked about, you know, they would like to have some tariff relief. But we had a very good meeting. He's a good man. He's a smart guy."
Speaking to reporters during a visit to the National Mall, Trump said they had a good meeting. "We're doing a lot of trading and we're going to do some increased trading," Trump said.
The two leaders discussed tariffs, trade, security, critical minerals and organized crime. U.S. and Brazilian trade officials agreed to talk in coming weeks to discuss what the Brazilian side described as an end to tariffs.
Lula said on Thursday that three hours of White House talks with Trump had helped to stabilize Brazil-U.S. relations that have been strained over Trump's tariff policy.
