Danish pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk has secured FDA approval in the United States for Awiqli, the first long-acting basal insulin administered once weekly for adults with type 2 diabetes. The commercial launch is anticipated during the second half of 2026.

The approval is based on Phase 3 clinical trials involving approximately 2,680 patients, where the treatment demonstrated reduced blood sugar levels and a safety profile consistent with daily insulin regimens.
