STORY: :: A senior Pentagon official says the U.S. has spent around $25 billion on the war in Iran

:: April 29, 2026

:: Jules Hurst, Acting Pentagon Comptroller

"So approximately this day, we're spending about $25 billion on Operation Epic Fury. Most of that is in munitions. There's part of that is obviously an arm and equipment replacement. We will formulate a supplemental through the White House that will come to Congress once we have a full assessment of the costs of the conflict."

REP. ADAM SMITH: So you're saying the full cost at this point is 25 billion.

HURST: "Yeah, that's our estimate for the cost."

Hurst, who is performing the duties of the comptroller, told lawmakers on the House Armed Services Committee that most of that money was for munitions.

The United States started carrying out strikes against Iran on Feb.28, and the two sides are currently maintaining a fragile ceasefire.
