(Alliance News) - Major European stock exchanges begin the week on a bearish note, after last week was marked by central banks reinforcing their commitment to keep interest rates higher for a prolonged period, while the latest signals from some Fed officials hinted at not ruling out the possibility of further hikes.

Meanwhile, traders await further clues from keynote speeches by ECB President Lagarde and board member Schnabel scheduled for later in the day, while concerns over China's real estate sector weighed on sentiment.

Selling began to prevail after real estate giant Evergrande canceled a meeting with creditors scheduled for today. The stock lost more than 21 percent in Hong Kong even as it clarified in a statement that its main subsidiary "was unable to meet the requirements for issuing new bonds."

Thus, the FTSE Mib is giving up 0.7 percent to 28,388.73, the Mid-Cap is falling with 0.7 percent to 39,839.06, the Small-Cap is in the red 0.4 percent to 25,928.47, and Italy Growth is retreating with 0.2 percent to 8,492.43.

In Europe, London's FTSE 100 gives up 0.5 percent, Paris' CAC 40 is in the red 0.6 percent, and Frankfurt's DAX 40 is leaving 0.7 percent on the sidelines.

On the main list of Piazza Affari, good session for banking sector, with Banco BPM over all marking a plus 2.2% touching a new 52-week high at EUR4.80 per share.

Good buying also on Iveco, which moves ahead 2.0% with new price at EUR9.29 per share on the heels of Friday evening's green with 0.4%.

Amplifon, on the other hand, leads the large bearish group, giving up 5.3% to EUR27.61. Of note, Millennium International Management revised its short position on the stock to 0.68 percent from 0.7 percent previously.

Prysmian, on the other hand, gives up 2.1%, setting its snout toward the third session to end among the bearish.

Telecom Italia--declining 1.1%--reported Friday that, as part of its ongoing negotiations with Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co LP, it has received a request from KKR for an extension to Oct. 15 of the exclusivity period to conclude preparatory activities and submit the binding offer on Netco. TIM's board of directors will consider the request received at its meeting on September 27.

On the Mid-Cap, Anima Holding advances 3.7 percent, with new price at EUR4.06 per share. The company announced on Monday that it had purchased its own ordinary shares between September 18 and 22, for a total value of nearly EUR2.5 million.

Banca Ifis also had a good session, moving ahead 2.3 percent after a 0.6 percent gain in the previous session.

At the back of the pack, Digital Value marks minus 3.3 percent, in its third session among the bearish.

Ariston Holding, on the other hand, is giving up 3.0 percent. The stock-which trades at EUR6.02-has hit a 52-week low of EUR5.99.

On the Small-Cap, Netweek is giving up 6.1 percent to EUR0.2910 after a 0.7 percent green on Friday evening.

Avio, on the other hand, steps back 3.6% to EUR8.30 per share, heading for its fourth bearish session.

Itway rises 2.5 percent, after closing up 4.7 percent, while PLC is flat at EUR1.50 per share, after announcing Friday that one of the group's companies, PLC System Srl, has signed a contract with wpd costruzioni Srl for the construction of the utility substation serving a wind farm with a capacity of more than 30.1 MWp, located in Licata, in the province of Agrigento. The total consideration for the contract amounts to more than EUR3.8 million.

SIT, meanwhile, advances 3.9 percent, after it closed down 0.8 percent on Friday.

Among SMEs, AATech moves ahead 4.6 percent, rebounding after six sessions closed on the bearish side.

Confinvest, meanwhile, advances 2.9% with new price at EUR1.80.

Valtecne rises 3.5 percent after announcing that it closed the half-year with a profit of EUR2.4 million, up 46 percent from the first half of 2022, when the result was EUR1.6 million.

Trendevice, on the other hand, gives up 6.9 percent, with new price at EUR0.2420. The liability, on the weekly time frame is more than 26%.

Askoll EVA, after falling more than 11%, goes into volatility auction. It reported Friday that it closed the first half of the year with a loss of EUR1.4 million, still an improvement from a loss of EUR1.9 million as of June 30, 2022. Net revenues in the first half stood at EUR5.8 million from EUR7.7 million in the same period last year.

In New York, the Dow closed Friday down 0.3 percent to 33,963.84, the Nasdaq in the fractional red to 13,211.81 and the S&P 500 in the red 0.2 percent to 4,320.06.

Among currencies, the euro changed hands at USD1.0633 against USD1.0666 on Friday in closing European equities while the pound was instead worth USD1.2223 from USD1.2279 on Friday evening.

Among commodities, Brent crude is worth USD93.62 per barrel versus USD94.40 per barrel at Friday's close. Gold, on the other hand, trades at USD1,922.53 an ounce from USD1,928.01 an ounce Friday night.

Monday's calendar includes results from Pierrel, Somec, Take Off and Zucchi among companies listed on the Milan Stock Exchange.
