Italian oil-and-gas major Eni said Tuesday that Vargronn and Energia Renewables have signed an agreement to jointly develop two offshore wind projects with a total capacity of 1.8 gigawatts in Ireland.

The plants, which are set to be located in the northern Celtic Sea and the southern Irish Sea, will be developed by 2030. Financial details weren't disclosed.

Vargronn is a joint venture between Eni's Plenitude and HitecVision, while Energia Renewables is an Irish renewable-focused integrated utility.

Ireland currently has 25 megawatts of offshore wind capacity installed and aims to reach at least 37 gigawatts of capacity by 2050.
