Slaughter and May and Watson Farley & Williams were top M&A legal advisers by value and volume in power sector for Q1-Q3 2020, says GlobalData

Slaughter andMayandWatsonFarley& Williamswerethe topmergers andacquisitions (M&A) legaladvisersinthe powersectorforQ1-Q32020byvalueandvolume, respectively. A total of 1,340 M&Adeals wereannounced inpowersectorduring the period, according to GlobalData, a leading data andanalytics company.

According to GlobalData's M&Areport, 'Global andPowerM&A Report Legal Adviser League Tables Q1-Q32020', there was a 27.2% decrease over 1,340 deals that wereannounced during Q1-Q3 2019. Deal valuealso decreased by19.5% from $188bn inQ1-Q3 2019 to $151bn inQ1-Q3 2020.

InGlobalData's ranking, SlaughterandMaysecured topposition interms of valuebyadvising on four deals worth $9bn, which was the highest valueamong all advisers. Meanwhile, WatsonFarley& Williamsled involumeterms having advised on 27 deals worth $5.4bn.

Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: 'WatsonFarley& Williamswas the only company inthe ranking to advise on more than 20 deals. It also managed to feature inthe list of topten advisors byvalue, occupying seventh position.

'SlaughterandMayled interms of valuedue to its involvement intwo deals worth greater than or equal to $1bn, but could not find a place among the topten advisors byvolume.'

SlaughterandMaywas closely followed byAllen & Overy, which advised on 12 deals worth $8.5bn andoccupied second position interms of value, followed bySimpson Thacher & Bartlett with five deals worth $8.5bn andCravath Swaine & Moore with three deals worth $6.8bn.

White & Case occupied the second position byvolumewith 18 deals worth $4.9bn, followed byBaker McKenzie andCMS with 17 deals each worth $5.3bn and$1bn, respectively.
