GSK announced that it has hired Burberry's chief financial officer Julie Brown, creating a rare all-female executive leadership team. The £53 billion pharmaceutical titan could confirm the appointment as soon as September 26, 2022. The businesswoman announced on Friday she would step down next year after six years at Burberry.

Working alongside GSK's chief executive Dame Emma Walmsley, Brown will replace Iain Mackay, who was the group's finance officer since 2019. Brown is no stranger to the pharmaceutical world. She was previously the interim group chief financial officer at Astrazeneca as well as CFO of UK medical device maker Smith & Nephew.

She currently sits as a nonexecutive director on the board of Swiss healthcare rival Roche - a position she would likely have to give up in the event she is appointed to the role.
