The San Diego-based company said it had profit of $1.39 per share. Earnings, adjusted for amortization costs and pretax expenses, came to $1.51 per share.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.35 per share.

The maker of medical products for respiratory disorders posted revenue of $904 million in the period, also surpassing Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $859.8 million.
