New York, NY, September 29, 2021 - UBS and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference ("SIAC") today announced "ELEVATE! Creating and Preserving Black Wealth," a virtual event series aimed at delivering financial literacy and wellness programs to students and introducing them to career opportunities in the financial services industry.

At each event, SIAC students will connect with former professional athletes and industry experts, to provide helpful tips and tools to increase their financial literacy and strategies to help build generational wealth. The sessions will be led by former NFL player and current Head of Sports and Entertainment at UBS, Adewale ("Wale") Ogunleye. He will be joined by former NBA player Allan Houston and SIAC Commissioner Gregory Moore.

"We are excited to deliver these curated events for SIAC students to help them gain access to the right resources and experiences that can positively impact their personal generational wealth and raise awareness about career opportunities in financial services," said Ogunleye. "I'm looking forward to collaborating with our partners on the upcoming sessions and helping students achieve their personal and professional financial and career goals."

The UBS and SIAC partnership was announced in February 2021 in collaboration with EVERFI, a leading social impact education technology company. Through this effort, UBS aims to create pathways that open up financial services career opportunities for the next generation of talent.

"Income inequality presents an existential threat to individuals looking to pursue the American Dream and future wealth creation. Unfortunately, within the African-American community, these challenges are even more acute," said Moore. "Historically Black Colleges and Universities, that graduate and train the largest number of black professionals, can play a critical role in the efforts to close the income gap. I applaud UBS for partnering with the SIAC to deliver programs that will provide students with access to valuable resources that can help shape their futures."

The first event took place on Tuesday, September 21 and was open to students from the following SIAC college and universities: Albany State University, Central State University, Clark Atlanta University, Fort Valley State University, Lane College, and Savannah State University.

The two remaining virtual events are as follows:

Monday, October 4, 6-7 pm EDT

  • Allen University, Kentucky State University, LeMoyne-Owen College, Miles College, and Morehouse College

Tuesday, October 21, 6-7 pm EDT

  • Benedict College, Edward Waters University, Spring Hill College, and Tuskegee University

Students at participating colleges and universities can register for the events here. For information on financial wellness and career opportunities for college students, visit UBS Careers.
