BEIJING, April 30 (Reuters) - Chinese authorities expelled Yi Huiman, former chairman of the China Securities Regulatory Commission, from the Communist Party and public office, the anti-graft watchdog said on Thursday.
Yi headed the securities regulator from January 2019 to February 2024 but fell under investigation last year during Beijing's widening crackdown on corruption in the finance sector.
Neither Yi nor representatives for him could be immediately reached for comment.
Yi paid lip service and shirked responsibility in implementing the central government's plans for the capital market, the watchdog said in a statement, without specifying.
He also "engaged in superstitious activities" and accepted gifts, money, meals and travel arrangements that could "affect his impartial performance of duties," the watchdog said.
The statement said Yi's wrongdoing also included abusing power to help others with promotions, IPO approvals and financing in exchange for personal gain.
