Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has been hospitalized and is in "critical but stable condition."

That is according to his spokesperson on Sunday.

The 81-year-old was praised for his response to the 9/11 attack on New York City, earning the nickname "America's Mayor."

Giuliani served as Donald Trump's attorney in his unsuccessful bid to overturn the 2020 election, resulting in criminal charges against him in two states and a defamation lawsuit from election workers.

He has denied wrongdoing in the criminal cases.

In a social media post, Trump called Giuliani the "Best Mayor in the History of New York City" and said he had been mistreated by Democrats.

The former mayor's spokesperson did not immediately provide more details about his condition or how long he has been hospitalized.

Giuliani was previously hospitalized last year following a car crash in New Hampshire.
