SEOUL, April 16 (Reuters) - South Korean Finance Minister Koo Yun-cheol will hold a meeting with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Friday, the Yonhap News Agency reported.
Here are some details:
o The two ministers will meet on the sidelines of the Group of 20 finance ministers and central bank governors meeting in Washington, D.C., Koo told reporters, according to Yonhap.
o "There will be another opportunity to give more details later, after hearing various opinions (of the U.S. side)," Koo was quoted as saying.
o In their previous meeting in January, Bessent made rare remarks on South Korea's won currency, saying its depreciation was out of line with economic fundamentals.
o Japanese Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama said after her meeting with Bessent on Wednesday that the two countries agreed to strengthen communication on exchange rates.
o The won has strengthened 3% so far this month to around 1,470 per dollar, after weakening last month past a psychological barrier of 1,500 for the first time in 17 years.
