U.S. New Home Sales Rose in March

The rate of new home sales rose in March. Here are the main takeaways from the delayed report released by the Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development Tuesday:

--Sales of new single-family homes rose to 682,000 in March, from 635,000 in February.

--A consensus of economists polled by The Wall Street Journal expected 660,000 sales in March.

-The estimate for new houses for sale was 481,000 in March, compared with 483,000 in February, the Commerce Department said.

--The median sales price of new houses sold in March was $387,400 down 5.3% from February, it added.

-The February and March 2026 new residential sales reports were originally scheduled for March 24 and April 23, respectively.
