Timed for back-to-school, Box Tops for Education has a new in-app feature designed to make it easier to support 'Schools in Need.'

It will allow Box Tops participants the option to direct funds in the app to improve the educational experiences in participating schools that meet U.S. government criteria for additional support.

'We wanted to make it easier for people who might not have a direct connection to a local school to find and really shine a light on those schools that could use a little extra help,' says Lilly Moeding, Brand Experience manager, Box Tops for Education.

Moeding explains, in this video clip, how the new support for 'Schools in Need' builds on the commitment by Box Tops to advance equity in education.

Driving toward a more diverse education workforce

Box Tops also is teaming up with Walmart and the LeBron James Family Foundation (LJFF) to raise awareness of the importance of a diverse education workforce.

A video series - 'The Best Year Starts Here' - showcases the many ways diverse educators and school support staff can improve students' outcomes and education.

Plus, it will show some emotional moments, when Box Tops and its partners surprised four teachers and school support staff in Minnesota, Ohio and Pennsylvania with checks to help alleviate their student loans.

'Teachers and school staff are some of the most influential people in our kids' lives. I know firsthand how important it is to see and learn from diverse educators - it builds confidence and creates a connection for every single student,' said LeBron James. 'For my Foundation and our work in education, we've made this a priority in everything we do because we know how important it is to helping students and families stay engaged. We're excited to help share what we've learned and tell this story alongside Box Tops for Education and Walmart.'

The partnership with Walmart and the LJFF is another step for Box Tops in the program's journey of understanding the inequities that exist in education and identifying ways to create sustained change.

It builds upon the plans by Box Tops in conjunction with Black Men Teach Twin Cities - featured on 'A Taste of General Mills' in May - to bring attention to the impact and the need for more teachers of color in classrooms in our hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
