SYDNEY--Santos Ltd. said it has shut down the John Brookes platform temporarily after discovering a small gas leak in a key pipeline, predicting it will take between four and six weeks to repair.

Santos said the gas-processing facilities on Varanus Island would produce at reduced rates while remedial work is carried out, but it didn't expect to change existing output guidance provided to investors.

"The observation of the leak occurred during routine activities on the normally unstaffed facility," Santos said in a regulatory filing. "The platform and pipeline were immediately shutdown and depressurized and all personnel demobilized."

Santos said it has notified all relevant regulatory bodies.
