:: Police arrest protesters outside the offices of U.S. senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand
:: The protesters were calling on the senators to support a vote blocking U.S. weapons sales to Israel
Protesters gathered outside the Midtown office building wearing shirts reading, "Fund People, Not Bombs," and held banners saying, "Fund Healthcare Not Warfare" and "Stop Arming Israel."
Demonstrators sat outside the senators' offices before moving into Third Avenue, where police repeatedly warned them to leave the roadway or face arrest on disorderly conduct charges.
Police later arrested about 100 protesters, carrying some away from the street.
The protest was organized ahead of an anticipated Senate vote on measures to block sales of weapons and bulldozers to Israel. Demonstrators also urged Schumer and Gillibrand to oppose reported plans by President Donald Trump to seek $100 billion in supplemental funding related to the U.S.-Israel war.
