:: The Secret Service says officers confronted an armed juvenile near the White House who fired at agents

:: Matthew Quinn, U.S. Secret Service Deputy Director

"I can tell you that every time, one, we're patrolling this area and every site we do 24-7, hardcore. Whether or not it was directed to the President or not, I don't know, but we will find out. [Reporter asks, off camera "Weapon recovered?] Yes."

:: The suspect was hospitalized after being shot by Secret Service agents

"I can just tell you right now that it's a juvenile."

"No, I can confirm with you, it was uniformed Secret Service police officers that engaged the suspect. [Journalist, off camera, asks: "But it was plain clothes that made the first visual?"]. Yes sir."

"U.S. Secret Service personnel are on the scene of an officer-involved shooting at 15th Street and Independence Avenue in Washington, D.C. One individual was shot by law enforcement; their condition is currently unknown," the Secret Service said in a statement on X.

At a press conference at the scene of the shooting on the National Mall, Deputy Secret Service Director Matthew Quinn said Secret Service officers had engaged a juvenile suspect and recovered a weapon.

The White House was briefly locked down on Monday afternoon.

Law enforcement has been on alert in recent days in the U.S. capital following a shooting at the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner late last month over which a suspect has been arrested.
