As of 0804 GMT on Friday, Spain's benchmark IBEX 35 was up 31.90 points, or 0.19%, at 16,994.80, while the FTSE Eurofirst 300 index of leading European shares remained unchanged.

In the banking sector, Santander rose 0.58%, BBVA edged down 0.05%, Caixabank advanced 0.59%, Sabadell gained 0.46%, Bankinter added 0.19%, and Unicaja Banco climbed 0.24%.

Among large-cap non-financial stocks, Telefónica rose 0.68%, Inditex shed 0.91%, Iberdrola gained 0.18%, Cellnex added 0.42%, and oil major Repsol advanced 0.66%.

Within the rest of the utilities sector, Naturgy climbed 1.99%, while Endesa advanced 0.86%.
