Angola received, this Sunday, 464,469 doses of vaccines from Pfizer, in a donation from the United States of America (USA) through the Covax Initiative.

This is the third batch of vaccines donated by the USA, bringing to 1,646,960 doses of the Pfizer immunization.

According to the Secretary of State for Hospitals, Leonardo Inocêncio, the vaccines will be distributed throughout the country.

Leonardo Inocêncio said that the Angolan government had also purchased a further 280,000 doses of Sinopharm.

"In addition to this donation, the government has bought 280,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccine, which guarantees that we have a full batch of vaccines to serve the population," he said.

By the end of the year, he said, the health authorities aimed to vaccinate 70 percent of the Angolan population.

He appealed to the population to flock to the vaccination posts throughout the country.

"We know that there are many people who have not yet taken the vaccine. We want to take the opportunity to appeal to the population to adhere to the vaccination posts, so that we can stop this evil that affects everyone", he concluded.

In his turn, the chargé d'affaires of the US embassy, Greg Segas, said that his country is committed to contributing to vaccination efforts in Angola.
