BASF is raising prices for pharmaceutical excipients and selected active ingredients by up to 20 percent, citing surging energy and raw material costs. The price adjustment is effective immediately, the BASF Pharma Solutions business unit announced on Monday. The hike applies to excipients, which serve as critical inactive components in drug formulations, as well as selected APIs (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients) responsible for the therapeutic effects of medications.

In mid-March, BASF had already announced significant price increases within its Home Care and I&I (Industrial & Institutional) cleaning division. Prices for all products in Europe were raised by up to 30 percent, with even steeper hikes for selected items. The group similarly attributed these moves to high price volatility for key raw materials, alongside rising logistics, packaging, and energy costs.
