The Food and Drug Administration said it collected and analyzed 19 samples of Raw Farm LLC raw cheddar cheese products and one sample tested positive for E. coli.
The FDA said analysis through whole genome sequencing showed that the E. coli strain found in the cheese is a different strain than the current outbreak. Instead, this strain matches illnesses from a different 2025 outbreak, the FDA said.
Fresno, Calif.-based Raw Farm, the country's largest raw-milk producer, said April 2 that it voluntarily recalled some products "under protest." In a clarified notice, the company withdrew the comment that "This Voluntary Recall is being performed under protest." It said that while the company reserves its rights and disputes being the cause of the outbreak, it issued the recall in the interest of public health and safety.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in March that it was investigating E. coli infections linked to Raw Farm cheese. The CDC said in a March 25 update that nine illnesses with the outbreak strain were reported, including three hospitalizations.
